Carpal Tunnel

Did you know that the nerves may become entrapped in your back by the bones in your spine, possibly in the shoulder girdle or in your elbow...or  in the muscles of your forearm ....and the bones in your wrist may also compress nearby nerves giving rise to the symptoms of carpal tunnel syndrome?  While many people seek treatment through surgical means, our chiropractors at Milton Chiropractic in GA has had success in treating carpel tunnel syndrome through non-invasive adjustments to the joints along the entrapment path.  With surgical procedures costing anywhere between $6,000 and $11,000 dollars and only resulting in full resolution of symptoms in less than 40% of the cases, many people are beginning to elect a more conservative approach to care.  For these reasons, our doctors at Milton Chiropractic have prepared a video to help explain this concept..

We often have patients who experience numbness in their hand and automatically think they have carpal tunnel.  We also see patients after they have been diagnosed by another practitioners and they have sometimes been given the wrong diagnosis.  The nerves that supply the hand traverse though, under and around many joints and musculature before supplying the hand with sensory and motor function.  Therefore we often find there may be an entrapment in the wrist but that may only be 25% of the problem.  Maybe 30% is coming from the spine, 20% in the shoulder, 25% in the forearm........

Because their are many sights along the nerves path that can cause entrapment of the nerve itself it is of utmost importance that all the sights that can contribute to hand numbness be thoroughly evaluated.

Last but not least their are a number of conditions that can cause hand numbness.

For example:  Cervical disc herniation, Thoracic outlet syndrome, Lateral Epicondylitis etc.

We encourage patients to undergo a full evaluation before committing to an invasive procedure that may not provide the relief you are looking for.

Please feel free to call the office to set up an evaluation today!  (770) 751-9224
